Tommy Zen

Tommy Zen – Official Bio

Tommy Zen is an underground UK hip hop emcee and award-winning producer with roots in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, and an artistic journey that spans the Channel Islands, South Africa, and London’s vibrant music scene.

Tommy’s path has been anything but ordinary. Living with schizoaffective disorder, he has endured terrifying and life-shaping experiences that tested his mind, spirit, and determination. Rather than breaking him, these struggles became a source of raw honesty and emotional depth that flow through every beat and lyric he creates. His music stands as proof that even in darkness, creativity can carve a way forward.

He first made his mark in Guernsey as a young DJ before joining the hip hop group Asylum Seekas. With them, he honed his production skills, sharpened his lyricism, and performed at major events including Guernsey Live and The Vale Earth Fair. After winning a rap competition, the group earned a coveted slot at Hip Hop Kemp in the Czech Republic—one of Europe’s most respected hip hop festivals.

During a transformative period in Cape Town, South Africa, Tommy immersed himself in music production from the ground up. That foundation led to advanced studies at Point Blank Music College in London and an invitation from BBC Introducing to attend an exclusive masterclass at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. His reputation grew further with a standout collaboration with UK hip hop icon Klashnekoff on the acclaimed track “Walking With Beasts.” His work has since been broadcast on BBC Radio York and BBC Radio Guernsey, bringing his dark, infectious sound to wider audiences.

In recent years, Tommy has expanded his artistry into music for zen meditation, deep relaxation, and restorative sleep. A lifelong devotee of meditation—sometimes practicing for up to 18 hours a day—he now channels both discipline and lived experience into soundscapes that soothe the mind and uplift the spirit.

Through every beat, rhyme, and meditative composition, Tommy Zen transforms struggle into strength, proving that even the most turbulent inner worlds can give rise to transcendent art.
